Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 pickled pepperoncini peppers
  • 1/2 head iceberg lettuce
  • 1 large tomato, halved and seeded
  • 1/4 pound deli-sliced genoa salami
  • 1/4 pound deli-sliced ham
  • 1/4 pound deli-sliced prosciutto
  • 1/4 pound deli-sliced roast turkey
  • 1/4 pound deli-sliced provolone cheese
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 12 inch round loaf Italian bread
  • 8 hoagie rolls, cut into pieces, for dipping

Instructions

Prep the Ingredients:

  1. Chop the onion, pepperoncini, lettuce, and tomato into bite-size pieces.
  2. Dice the genoa salami, ham, prosciutto, roast turkey, and provolone cheese.

Mix the Ingredients:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the chopped vegetables, meats, and cheese.
  2. Add the mayonnaise, olive oil, dried oregano, dried basil, and red pepper flakes.
  3. Stir until everything is well mixed and the flavors are combined.

Prepare the Bread Bowl:

  1. Carve out the center of the round Italian bread loaf to create a bowl (be careful not to cut through the bottom).
  2. Cut the removed bread scraps into bite-size pieces.
  3. Serve the hoagie dip in the bread bowl, and provide the extra bread pieces and hoagie rolls for dipping.

Notes

  • Variations: Feel free to customize this dip by adding your favorite deli meats or cheeses. You can also adjust the level of spiciness by increasing or decreasing the amount of pepperoncini or red pepper flakes.

  • Serving: The bread bowl adds a nice presentation, but you can also serve the dip in a regular serving dish. Make sure to provide plenty of bread or crackers for dipping.

  • Make-Ahead: You can prepare the dip a few hours in advance and refrigerate it until you’re ready to serve. This allows the flavors to meld together.

  • Leftovers: If you have leftover dip, it’s great as a sandwich filling. Spread it on hoagie rolls or between slices of bread for a quick and tasty sandwich.

  • Fresh Ingredients: Using fresh and high-quality deli meats and cheeses will enhance the flavor of the dip. You can also add fresh herbs like basil or parsley for extra freshness.

  • Adjusting Seasonings: Taste the dip and adjust the seasonings to your preference. You can add more mayo for creaminess, extra spices for flavor, or a dash of hot sauce if you like it spicy.

  • Serve with a Variety of Dippers: In addition to bread, provide an assortment of dippers like vegetable sticks, pretzels, or pita chips to cater to different tastes.
