Swedish Meatballs:
- 1 slice white bread, finely diced
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup finely diced onion
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 pound lean ground beef
- 1/2 pound lean ground pork
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Gravy:
- 1 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups warm beef broth
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
Garnish:
- 1 tablespoon freshly chopped parsley
Instructions
- Meatballs: Preheat oven to 375หF. Mix bread and milk in a bowl. Sautรฉ onions and garlic, then add to bread mixture. Mix in beef, pork, egg, salt, pepper, allspice, and nutmeg. Form meatballs and bake.
- Gravy: Melt butter, whisk in flour, then slowly add beef broth. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer until thickened, then stir in cream.
- Assembly and Serving: Toss meatballs in gravy. Spread mashed potatoes on a platter, top with meatballs and extra gravy. Garnish with parsley.
