Description

This Meatball & Mashed Potato Bake recipe combines savory Swedish meatballs with a rich gravy and creamy mashed potatoes for a comforting and satisfying meal.


Ingredients

Swedish Meatballs:

  • 1 slice white bread, finely diced
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup finely diced onion
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 pound lean ground pork
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Gravy:

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups warm beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Garnish:

  • 1 tablespoon freshly chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. Meatballs: Preheat oven to 375หšF. Mix bread and milk in a bowl. Sautรฉ onions and garlic, then add to bread mixture. Mix in beef, pork, egg, salt, pepper, allspice, and nutmeg. Form meatballs and bake.
  2. Gravy: Melt butter, whisk in flour, then slowly add beef broth. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer until thickened, then stir in cream.
  3. Assembly and Serving: Toss meatballs in gravy. Spread mashed potatoes on a platter, top with meatballs and extra gravy. Garnish with parsley.
