Description

This classic Maryland Crab Dip combines tender lump crab meat with a creamy, cheesy blend of whipped cream cheese, tartar sauce, and Old Bay Seasoning. It’s perfect for any gathering and is best served warm with toasted baguette slices.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 8 oz whipped cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup tartar sauce (or mayonnaise, if preferred)
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Old Bay Seasoning*
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 lb jumbo lump or lump crab meat*
  • 1/4 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh chopped parsley, for garnish
  • Sliced and toasted baguette, for serving
  • Olive oil cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a shallow baking dish, such as a pie dish, with cooking spray.
  2. Mix the Base:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the whipped cream cheese, tartar sauce, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce (if using), Old Bay Seasoning, and lemon juice. Mix until smooth.
  3. Add the Crab and Cheese:
Gently fold in the crab meat, half of the shredded Monterey Jack cheese, and half of the shredded mozzarella cheese with a rubber spatula. Be careful not to break up the crab meat too much.
  4. Assemble and Bake:
Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly. Sprinkle the remaining Monterey Jack and mozzarella cheese on top. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the dip is heated through.
  5. Garnish and Serve:
Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve hot with toasted baguette slices.

Notes

  • Crab Meat: You can use lump or jumbo lump crab meat for this recipe. Lump crab meat is a more economical option that works perfectly in dips.
  • Tartar Sauce Tip: Ensure you use a tartar sauce you enjoy for the best flavor. Whole Foods brand is recommended, but mayonnaise can be substituted if desired.
  • Old Bay Seasoning: If you’re new to Old Bay or prefer a milder flavor, start with ½ tablespoon and adjust to taste after baking.
