- 2 (8 ounce) packages refrigerated crescent roll dough, divided
- 2 lemons, zested and juiced, divided
- 2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 3 tablespoons white sugar
Instructions
- Preheat and prep: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with foil and coat with cooking spray.
- First layer: Unroll 1 package of crescent roll dough and press into the bottom of the prepared dish.
- Make filling: In a bowl, combine lemon juice and 3/4 of the lemon zest. Beat in cream cheese and 1/2 cup sugar until smooth. Spread over the crescent roll base.
- Second layer and topping: Unroll the remaining crescent roll dough and place over the cream cheese filling. Brush with melted butter. Mix 3 tablespoons sugar with the remaining lemon zest and sprinkle over the top.
- Bake and cool: Bake for 30 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool for 20 minutes.
- Chill and serve: Lift the dessert from the dish using the foil and transfer to a cutting board. Cut into squares. Return to the dish and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
Notes
- For best results, use room temperature cream cheese for easy mixing.
- You can use a different type of citrus fruit, such as oranges or limes, instead of lemons.
- If you don’t have crescent roll dough, you can use puff pastry or a shortbread crust.
