Description

This Jalapeño Cheddar Bread is a savory and flavorful quick bread with a delicious combination of sharp cheddar cheese, spicy jalapeños, and a hint of onion. It’s perfect for serving alongside soups, salads, or enjoying on its own with a smear of butter.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 jalapeño, diced small
  • 2 eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup milk, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prep: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9-inch loaf pan and line with parchment paper.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: In a large bowl, sift together flour and baking powder. Mix in sugar, salt, onion powder, Parmesan cheese, cheddar cheese, and jalapeños.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs and milk.
  4. Combine wet and dry: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in melted butter.
  5. Bake: Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan. Bake for 60-80 minutes, or until a cake tester inserted into the center comes out clean. Check at the 45-minute mark and cover with foil if browning too quickly.
  6. Cool: Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a milder flavor, remove the seeds and ribs from the jalapeño before dicing.
  • You can use a different type of cheese, such as Monterey Jack or pepper jack.
  • This bread is delicious toasted with butter or served with chili or soup.
