This delicious and hearty Garlic Bread Sloppy Joes recipe combines the classic sloppy joe filling with cheesy garlic bread. It’s a perfect twist on two comfort food favorites, making it an easy and satisfying meal for the whole family.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Garlic Bread:

  • 1 loaf Italian bread
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick / 113 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt

For the Sloppy Joe:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup yellow onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 3/4 cup (180 g) ketchup
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup water

For the Topping:

  • 1 cup (113 g) mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup (113 g) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • Parsley, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Prepare the Garlic Bread:
Slice the loaf of Italian bread lengthwise into two halves. Place both halves, cut side up, on the prepared baking sheet.
In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter and garlic salt. Spread this mixture evenly over the cut sides of the bread. Set aside.

  3. Make the Sloppy Joe Filling:
In a medium nonstick skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until the beef is browned and no longer pink, about 8-10 minutes. Drain any excess grease.
Stir in the garlic powder, mustard, ketchup, salt, pepper, and water. Mix well until everything is combined. Simmer for a few minutes until the sloppy joe mixture thickens.

  4. Assemble the Garlic Bread Sloppy Joes:
Spoon the sloppy joe mixture evenly over both halves of the garlic bread. Top with the shredded mozzarella and sharp cheddar cheese.

  5. Bake:
Place the assembled bread in the preheated oven and bake for 12-14 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden brown.

  6. Serve:
Remove from the oven, cut into pieces, and garnish with chopped parsley. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • To make this recipe in an air fryer, follow the steps until baking. Instead of placing the bread in the oven, air fry the assembled garlic bread sloppy joes at 400°F for about 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
