Description

This French Onion Soup Rice is a savory and comforting side dish that combines the rich flavors of beef broth and French onion soup with perfectly cooked rice. The dish is topped with slices of butter that melt into the rice as it bakes, creating a delicious and easy-to-make accompaniment to any meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/4 cups long grain rice, uncooked
  • 14.5 oz can of beef broth
  • 10.5 oz can of French onion soup
  • 1 stick of butter, cold
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Spread the uncooked rice evenly in an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  2. Layering Flavors: Pour the beef broth over the rice, ensuring it is evenly distributed. Then, pour the French onion soup over the top of the beef broth.
  3. Adding Richness: Slice the cold butter into thin pieces and layer them evenly over the rice and soup mixture. This will add richness and flavor to the dish as it bakes.
  4. Baking Brilliance: Cover the baking dish tightly with foil and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for 25 minutes. After 25 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 25 minutes, or until the rice is tender and has absorbed most of the liquid.
  5. Final Touch: Once the rice is fully cooked and slightly golden on top, remove it from the oven. Sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley for a burst of color and fresh flavor. Serve warm as a side dish to your favorite main course.

Notes

  • For an extra layer of flavor, you can sprinkle grated cheese over the top during the last 10 minutes of baking.
  • This dish pairs well with roasted chicken, beef, or pork.
