Description

These festive Christmas Pretzel Rods are a delightful holiday treat combining salty pretzels with colorful candy coatings and holiday-themed sprinkles. They are easy to make, perfect for gifting, parties, or simply enjoying a sweet and salty snack during the holiday season.

Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • Pretzel rods

Candy Coatings

  • Brown candy coating (milk chocolate morsels or chocolate almond bark)
  • White candy coating (white chocolate morsels or vanilla almond bark)
  • Green candy coating
  • Red candy coating

Sprinkles and Decorations

  • Assorted sprinkles (Confetti Holly Mix, Wilton Holiday Nonpareils, Wilton Christmas Snowflake Sprinkles)
  • Crushed peppermint

Instructions

  1. Melt the Candy Coating: Melt the candy coatings according to the package directions, taking special care not to overheat, which could make the candy too thick. If thick, add 2 teaspoons of vegetable shortening to thin the coating. Avoid adding any liquid to prevent seizing.
  2. Coat the Pretzel Rods: Dip or pour the melted candy over about two-thirds of each pretzel rod. Gently shake off excess coating to avoid drips or clumps.
  3. Add Sprinkles: Immediately after coating, while the candy is still wet, apply sprinkles by rotating the pretzel rods to ensure even coverage. Larger sprinkles should be placed individually for best effect.
  4. Set on Waxed Paper or Cooling Rack: Place coated pretzel rods onto waxed paper or a cooling rack to dry completely. Waxed paper is recommended for easier removal.
  5. Optional Candy Drizzle: Once the initial candy coating has fully set, drizzle additional colors of candy melts over the pretzels using a spoon or fork. Before this drizzle sets, carefully move the pretzels to fresh wax paper.
  6. Dry and Store: Allow the pretzels to dry thoroughly before packaging or serving. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain crispness; refrigerating may soften the pretzels.

Notes

  • Do not overheat the candy coatings to avoid thickening and clumping.
  • Use vegetable shortening to thin candy coatings if necessary—never add water or other liquids.
  • Waxed paper is ideal for drying coated pretzels as it prevents sticking.
  • Larger sprinkles should be applied individually for better coverage and appearance.
  • Store at room temperature in an airtight container to keep pretzels crunchy.
