Description

This Easy Patty Melt Recipe is a delicious and satisfying twist on a classic burger. It features juicy beef patties, melted cheese, and a flavorful sauce, all sandwiched between buttery slices of rye bread.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 12 slices rye bread
  • 12 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 6 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 4 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons real bacon bits
  • 2 teaspoons sweet relish
  • 2 teaspoons white sugar
  • 12 slices cheddar cheese
  • 12 slices Provolone cheese

Instructions

  1. Prep Bread: Thoroughly butter one side of each slice of bread. Set aside.
  2. Make Patties: Combine the ground beef, pepper, salt, and onion powder in a bowl and mix until the spices are evenly distributed. Shape the mixture into three separate patties to match the shape of the bread.
  3. Cook Patties: Preheat a nonstick skillet on the stove over medium-high heat. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for approximately 2-3 minutes per side. Reduce to low heat and cook for approximately 5 more minutes. The centers should be uniformly brown with no pink remaining. Use a digital thermometer to check the internal temperature of each patty. Each one should be 160 degrees Fahrenheit (71°C).
  4. Make Sauce: While the patties cook, mix the mayo, ketchup, bacon bits, relish, and sugar in a small bowl. Stir until well-blended, and set aside.
  5. Assemble and Cook: When the patties are ready, heat a second skillet on medium-low heat and add one slice of bread (butter-side down). Top the bread with two slices of cheddar cheese, followed by a patty and two slices of Provolone. Spread the sauce over the unbuttered side of the second bread slice. Then, place that piece of bread (sauce-side down) on top of the last slice of cheese. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side or until the bread is lightly toasted. Repeat until all three patty melts are ready.
  6. Serve: Remove from heat, serve, and enjoy.

Notes

  • Bread: You can use any type of bread you like, but rye bread is classic for patty melts.
  • Cheese: Feel free to use your favorite types of cheese.
  • Sauce: You can use your favorite burger sauce or make your own.
  • Cooking: Be careful not to overcook the patties, or they will be dry.
  • Serving Suggestion: Serve with your favorite sides, such as fries, onion rings, or a salad.
