Description

A simple and flavorful Brussels Sprouts and Bacon recipe featuring crispy bacon and tender Brussels sprouts cooked in bacon grease for a rich, savory side dish perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound bacon, cut into small pieces
  • 2 dozen Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon: Fry the bacon in a skillet over medium-high heat until it becomes crispy, releasing its flavorful fat.
  2. Drain bacon and reserve grease: Transfer the cooked bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess fat, leaving the bacon grease in the pan for cooking the Brussels sprouts.
  3. Cook Brussels sprouts: Add the halved Brussels sprouts to the pan, stirring to coat them well in the bacon grease. Cover the pan with a lid, reduce heat to medium-low, and cook for 5 minutes to soften the sprouts.
  4. Add bacon back and finish cooking: Return the bacon pieces to the pan with the Brussels sprouts. Cook uncovered for a few more minutes until the sprouts are tender and browned to your liking. You may cover the pan again if you prefer softer sprouts, but watch closely to prevent scorching.
  5. Season and serve: Season with salt and pepper as needed, then serve immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Small to average-sized Brussels sprouts are recommended; larger sprouts will require longer cooking time.
  • This recipe is also featured on page 243 of the Salt & Lavender: Everyday Essentials hardcover cookbook.
