Description

These Christmas Gooey Butter Cookies are a soft, sweet, and festive treat that’s perfect for the holiday season. They’re easy to make with just a few simple ingredients and are sure to be a hit with everyone.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 8 ounces full-fat cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) box of yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup holiday sprinkles
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, butter, egg, and vanilla extract with an electric mixer until smooth. Stir in the cake mix until a thick dough forms.
  3. Add Sprinkles: Gently fold in holiday sprinkles, being careful not to overmix.
  4. Chill Dough: Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes to make it easier to handle.
  5. Shape and Coat: Scoop out the dough into 1 1/2-inch balls and roll them in powdered sugar until fully coated.
  6. Bake: Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, about 2 inches apart, and bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are set but the centers still look slightly soft.
  7. Cool: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Notes

  • Cake Mix: You can use any flavor of cake mix you like, but yellow or white cake mix is recommended for this recipe.
  • Sprinkles: Use your favorite holiday sprinkles to make these cookies festive.
  • Chilling Dough: Chilling the dough is important to prevent the cookies from spreading too much while baking.
  • Storage: Store the cookies in a single layer in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • Freezing: The cookies can be frozen for up to 3 months in an airtight container or freezer bag. Thaw at room temperature before serving.
