Description

This festive Candy Cane Peppermint Puppy Chow (also known as muddy buddies) is the perfect holiday treat! Crunchy Chex cereal is coated in melted peppermint-flavored baking chips, powdered sugar, and crushed candy canes for a sweet and minty snack. It’s quick and easy to make, and perfect for parties or gifting during the holidays.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 5 cups Chex cereal (rice or corn are best)
  • 10 oz Andes Peppermint Baking Chips (or any peppermint-flavored baking chips)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 6 candy canes, crushed

Instructions

  1. Melt the Baking Chips:
In a large glass bowl, melt the Andes Peppermint Baking Chips in the microwave. Heat in 20-30 second intervals at half power, stirring between each interval until fully melted and smooth.
  2. Coat the Cereal:
Pour the Chex cereal into the bowl with the melted baking chips. Gently stir and fold the cereal until each piece is evenly coated with the peppermint mixture.
  3. Prepare the Coating:
In a large zip-top bag, combine the powdered sugar and crushed candy canes.
  4. Add the Cereal to the Bag:
Add the coated Chex cereal to the bag with the powdered sugar and candy canes. Seal the bag tightly and shake vigorously until all of the cereal is thoroughly coated.
  5. Store or Serve:
You can keep the Peppermint Puppy Chow in the sealed bag or transfer it to an airtight container. It will stay fresh for up to 2 weeks at room temperature.

Notes

  • Make sure to stir the cereal gently to avoid breaking the pieces.
  • For extra peppermint flavor, you can add a few drops of peppermint extract to the melted baking chips before coating the cereal.
