Description
A delightful and unique twist on the classic grilled cheese sandwich combining the sweetness of a homemade blueberry balsamic spread with sharp cheddar and creamy goat cheese, all toasted to golden perfection on sourdough bread.
Ingredients
Scale
Blueberry Spread
- 1 cup blueberries
- 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 3 tablespoons sugar
Sandwich
- 4 slices sourdough bread
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 ounces crumbled goat cheese
- Softened butter, to spread over bread
Instructions
- Prepare the Blueberry Spread: Heat blueberries, balsamic vinegar, and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook for about 5 minutes until the blueberries break down and the mixture thickens to a paste-like consistency.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Spread a layer of the warm blueberry spread onto one slice of sourdough bread. Layer two slices of cheddar cheese evenly over the spread, then spread the crumbled goat cheese on top of the cheddar. Cover with another slice of bread.
- Butter the Bread: Generously spread softened butter on the outside of both the top and bottom slices of bread to ensure a golden, crispy crust during cooking.
- Cook the Sandwich: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the bread is toasted golden brown and the cheeses have melted.
- Serve: Remove the sandwich from the skillet, cut it in half, and serve hot for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Use fresh or frozen blueberries for the spread.
- Adjust sugar quantity depending on berry sweetness.
- Softened butter spreads more evenly and helps achieve an even golden crust.
- Cook on medium heat to prevent burning while allowing cheese to melt properly.
- Substitute sourdough with your favorite sturdy bread if desired.
